High Point Chamber of Commerce
Hosts the Seventh Annual Sheila Pigman/YWCA Business Woman of the
Year Luncheon
High
Point, NC — Congratulations to Heidi Majors, Executive Director for
the YWCA of High Point, recipient of the seventh annual Sheila
Pigman/YWCA Business Woman of the Year Award. Majors currently
serves on the Human Relations Commission for the City of High Point;
the High Point Housing Authority Clara Cox Revitalization Committee;
and is past president of the Triad Women’s Forum. Majors is a member
of the High Point Kiwanis Club and the Leadership: High Point
Steering Committee. Heidi Majors is a graduate of the 2002
Leadership: High Point Program.
In the true spirit of the Sheila Pigman/YWCA Business Woman of the
Year Award, Majors never looks for recognition, but rather strives
to insure that the volunteers and those around her are praised and
recognized. Jane West of North State Communications nominated
Majors. West said Majors “…has brought in many women, from younger
to older, to serve on the YWCA’S board and given them leadership
opportunities that they otherwise would not have experienced.” West
also remarked that Majors “…gives 100% to women throughout this
community, ensuring that women’s voices are heard throughout the
community on all levels.”
The Award is named to honor Sheila Pigman, an exceptional business
woman in High Point, who was taken at an early age due to cancer.
Tom Dayvault, President and CEO of the High Point Chamber of
Commerce, noted, “This award serves to keep Ms. Pigman’s memory
alive and to remind High Point business leaders of the type of
business person they should strive to emulate. We congratulate Heidi
for her outstanding service to our community.” The award is
presented each year during the Business Woman of the Year Award
Luncheon at the High Point Country Club.
This year’s luncheon featured Emily Ballance, a nationally known
professional speaker, who holds a Master’s Degree in Counseling from
the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and is a member of
the National Speakers Association and the Association of Applied and
Therapeutic Humor. Ms. Ballance enlightened the audience with
techniques to use humor to improve communication, motivate and
empower business people and associates.
The luncheon also included upcoming 2008 fall fashion trends
presented by Stephen Nardello of Belk, Oak Hollow Mall.
Past recipients for this prestigious award are Judy Mendenhall,
Marty Heim, Leah Price, Linda Roney, Jane Blackwell, and Tonia
Stephenson.
